The maker, not a middleman

Texas Rug Gallery is a Houston manufacturer and wholesale distributor of rugs made in India. We make our rugs in our own production network across India's weaving centers: Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Agra, Jaipur and Kashmir.

Behind us are more than 50 years in the rug industry. We are 100% women-owned, members of ASID, and we serve clients around the world from our 15,000 sq ft showroom and warehouse in Houston and our office in Dallas.

Weavers at a hand-knotting loom

About 1.5 million knots.

Five seconds each, tied one at a time, by hand.

A painter builds an image in brushstrokes. A weaver builds it one knot at a time, each one tied and cut by hand. A 9 × 12 hand-knotted rug at 10/10 quality holds about 1.5 million of them.

Most of our range is made by hand, and every rug we make, powerloom included, is finished by hand.

From fleece to floor

Every rug passes through hundreds of hands. The chain is the same for every construction; only the weaving changes.

Wool sorting and washing, carding and spinning, dyeing, drawing the design graph, setting up the loom, weaving, then clipping, washing, drying and stretching, binding the edges and fringes, inspection, labeling and packing.

Why we work in wool

Mass-produced rugs are mostly plastic-based fibers: cheap to make and short-lived. We work in wool and natural fibers that last, feel better and age well. Here is what to tell your client.

Looks beautiful for years

Wool springs back from footsteps and furniture, and keeps its shape and color for decades.

Flame retardant

Naturally, with no chemical treatment. It is slow to catch fire and puts itself out.

Warm in winter, cool in summer

A natural insulator that holds warmth in and keeps heat out.

Cleaner air

Wool traps dust and allergens until you vacuum them away.

Fresher rooms

It absorbs moisture when the air is humid and releases it when it is dry.

Quieter rooms

Wool absorbs sound, softening footsteps and echo.

Forgiving of spills

Spills rest on the surface long enough to blot away.

Made for busy homes

It stands up to children and pets, and cleans up beautifully.

Renewable and biodegradable

Sheep grow a new fleece every year, and wool returns to the earth at the end of its long life.

What we stand for

No child labor

Every rug is made by adult artisans. We do not compromise on this, at any stage, in any quality.

Fair treatment

Fair pay and long-term relationships, not one-off orders.

Ethically sourced materials

Wool and fibers from sources we know and trust.

Livelihoods

Our work supports more than 10,000 families across India's weaving centers. One high-quality hand-knotted rug puts roughly six months of food on the table for a family of four.

Keeping a craft alive

Hand-knotting, tufting and hand-finishing are skills passed down through generations. Every order keeps them in use.

Made to last

The most responsible rug is the one you don't have to replace.

Our mark

Our medallion is the letters T, R and G interlocked, then mirrored four times, the way a motif repeats across the field of a rug.
