Looking after a wool rug

Vacuum regularly along the direction of the pile, with the beater bar turned off.
Blot spills straight away. Don't rub.
Use professional cleaning for stains that won't lift.
Keep rugs out of strong direct sunlight where you can.
No bleach, no dry cleaning, and don't iron printed or embroidered areas.
